Fleas and ticks bring discomfort and disease, highlighting the need for consistent prevention.
Dogs with fleas are often scratching or chewing at themselves. Some people see fleas jumping, find flea dirt, and can get bit themselves. The smallest tick can often go undetected. Most ticks found on a dog are already engaged with a blood meal.
There are many flea and tick medications available to fit your dog’s lifestyle including oral and topical medications. It is recommended to check your dog regularly.
If you find a tick on your dog, remove it. If you are uncomfortable doing so, a member of our team will be happy to help. The tick can be sent to a lab to identify the species. The next step will be to get your dog started on a tick preventative. We strongly recommend yearly tick disease screening. A blood test can identify if your dog has been exposed to a tick.
